WordPlay your letters, score your words.
Game Rules: Scrabble
Game Identity
- Name: Scrabble
- Player Count: 2–4 players. Standard: 2–4.
- Teams: Optional (2v2 team play where partners sit across).
- Theme: Classic commercial word game by Hasbro. Players place letter tiles on a board to form words, scoring based on tile values and board multipliers.
Scoring Mechanics
- Scoring Variant: Accumulative — scores grow each turn. Highest total wins.
- Target Score: No fixed target. Game ends when the tile bag is empty and one player uses all their tiles, or all players pass twice in a row.
- Unit of Scoring: Points per word played (tile values × board multipliers).
- Lower vs. Higher: Higher score wins.
Rules & Validation
Per-Turn Scoring
Tile Values:
Value Letters 1 A, E, I, O, U, L, N, S, T, R 2 D, G 3 B, C, M, P 4 F, H, V, W, Y 5 K 8 J, X 10 Q, Z 0 Blank tiles Board Multipliers:
- Double Letter Score (DL): Tile on this square is worth ×2.
- Triple Letter Score (TL): Tile on this square is worth ×3.
- Double Word Score (DW): Entire word value ×2. (Starting square is a DW.)
- Triple Word Score (TW): Entire word value ×3.
- Multiple word multipliers stack (rare — e.g., two DW = ×4; DW + TW = ×6).
Bingo: Using all 7 tiles in a single turn = +50 bonus points added after multipliers.
Turn score: Sum of all letter values in all words formed that turn, multiplied by applicable board multipliers, plus Bingo bonus if applicable.
End-Game Adjustment
- When one player uses all tiles (bag is empty), subtract each remaining player's unplayed tile values from their score. Add the total of all deducted values to the player who went out.
- If no player goes out (all pass twice), only subtract unplayed tiles — no addition.
Validation Rules
- Per-turn score: non-negative integer.
- End-game adjustment: separate entry of tile deduction per player.
- Bingo bonus: exactly +50 per occurrence.
Win Conditions
- Condition: After end-game adjustments (tile deductions from remaining hands), the player with the highest total score wins.
- Tie-Breaker: No official tiebreaker. Players typically re-examine final scores; if still tied, the player with the higher score before final adjustments wins.
