Game Rules: Going to Boston
Game Identity
- Name: Going to Boston (Yankee Grab)
- Player Count: 2–8 players. Standard: 3–5.
- Teams: No teams. All players compete individually.
- Theme: Simple dice game where players keep their highest die each roll, building a total from three sequential rolls.
Scoring Mechanics
- Scoring Variant: Accumulative — round totals are summed over a fixed number of rounds.
- Target Score: Fixed rounds (standard: 10). Highest total wins.
- Unit of Scoring: Round score (sum of three kept dice).
- Lower vs. Higher: Higher score wins.
Rules & Validation
Turn Structure
Each player's turn consists of exactly 3 rolls of 3 dice:
- Roll 1: Roll all 3 dice. Set aside the highest die (mandatory). If tied for highest, player chooses which to set aside.
- Roll 2: Roll the 2 remaining dice. Set aside the highest of those two.
- Roll 3: Roll the 1 remaining die. Keep that result.
- Turn Score: Sum of the 3 dice kept (one from each roll).
- Maximum possible score: 18 (three 6s).
- Minimum possible score: 3 (three 1s).
Validation Rules
- Turn score must be between 3 and 18 inclusive.
- All players play once per round before the next round begins.
Special Actions / Bonuses
- Going to Boston: Rolling the maximum 18 (6-6-6) is called a "Boston" — some house rules award a bonus point. Not part of the base scoring.
Win Conditions
- Condition: After all agreed rounds, the player with the highest cumulative total wins.
- Tie-Breaker: Tied players play one additional round; highest single-round score wins.
