Game Rules: Shanghai (Darts)

Game Identity

• Name: Shanghai
• Player Count: 2–8 players. Standard: 3–5.
• Teams: No teams. All players compete individually.
• Theme: Darts game played over 7 rounds (targeting numbers 1–7). Players score points by hitting the target number — doubles and triples multiply the value. An instant win is possible by hitting single, double, and triple of the target in one turn.

Scoring Mechanics

• Scoring Variant: Accumulative — scores grow over 7 fixed rounds. Highest total wins.
• Target Score: Highest score after 7 rounds, OR instant win with a "Shanghai."
• Unit of Scoring: Points per round (multiples of the round number).
• Lower vs. Higher: Higher score wins.

Rules & Validation

Per-Round Logic

• Round number = Target number (Round 1 → hit 1s, Round 2 → hit 2s, …Round 7 → hit 7s).
• Each player throws 3 darts per round.
• Scoring: Only darts hitting the current round's number count.
  • Single = round number × 1
  • Double = round number × 2
  • Triple = round number × 3
• Darts hitting any other number score 0.

Instant Win (Shanghai)

• If a player hits single, double, and triple of the target number all in one turn (any order), they score an automatic Shanghai win — the game ends immediately and they win regardless of current scores.

Validation Rules

• Per-player per-round score is a multiple of the round number (0, 1×, 2×, 3× the number — or up to 6× if all three darts hit different scoring segments).
• Maximum round score = 3 × (round number × 3) — but in practice capped by 3 darts max.

Win Conditions

• Condition: Either a player calls Shanghai (hits single + double + triple of the current number in one turn — instant win), or the highest cumulative score after all 7 rounds wins.
• Tie-Breaker: If final scores are tied after 7 rounds, players play one sudden-death round targeting number 20. Highest score in that round wins.
